ICLink (Incident Commander Link) is designed, primarily, with search and rescue in mind. However, it has been successfully utilized to log a crime scene investigation, disaster recovery efforts, and evacuation exercises.
As a volunteer in search and rescue, the idea was inspired by a problem. The problem was that the incident commander (IC) was task saturated and needed a helping hand with organization and record keeping. ICLink provides a platform for the IC to delegate some of the more mundane tasks that are of the utmost importance to the mission and the team's safety. ICLink also allows the IC to capture a complete record of all events, big and small, so that there is a complete legal record of the mission.
The goals of ICLink are to:
ICLink is a hardware and software solution. ICLink in a box takes advantage of web based technologies WITHOUT THE NEED FOR AN INTERNET CONNECTION. ICLink in a box is a small, lightweight server and a wifi router. Anyone one with a phone, tablet, or laptop that can connect to the wifi router can login to ICLink and check-in, checkout, upload files (tracks, pictures, etc.) and download files (maps, briefings, etc.). This means, no complicated installations or dedicated and expensive computers to haul along. Just grab a battery powered ICLink in a box and go.
